The Federation of BC Woodlot Associations (FBCWA) promotes the economic and social interests of woodlot licensees, private forest landowners and others involved in small-scale forest management in British Columbia.
The FBCWA’s mission is for all its members to practice exemplary forest and natural resources management in a socially, economically and environmentally responsible manner.

-
In dialogue with both federal and provincial agencies the FBCWA is promoting the implementation of workable incentives for enhanced stewardship of private forest lands.
-
In land use and planning issues affecting private woodlands, the FBCWA and its member associations work to safeguard the rights and privileges of private ownership.
-
Over the past decade, the FBCWA has been an influential voice in the evolution of the Woodlot license form of Crown land tenure. Recent improvements include: changes to eligibility requirements and award criteria to ensure fairness in the award process and promote program goals; streamlining of administrative procedures required of woodlot licensees; more flexible provisions for boundary revisions and an increased maximum size for Interior and Coastal licenses to improve operational viability.
-
The FBCWA sponsors a course in basic forest management, FORESTRY: FROM THE GROUND UP, available throughout BC to groups of woodlot operators and others interested in small scale forest management.
-
The FBCWA seeks to ensure that stumpage rates applied to Crown timber harvested on Woodlot licenses reflect the circumstances of small scale forest operations, and participates on Coastal and Interior stumpage appraisal advisory committees. The FBCWA conducts woodlot licensee cost data surveys and engages in investigation and promotion of more appropriate methods of stumpage appraisal for this sector.
-
During 1997, the FBCWA facilitated the establishment of the Woodlot Product Development Council. The Council administers a fund made up of a $0.25 per cubic metre levy on Crown timber harvested on Woodlot licenses and undertakes research, information dissemination and market development initiatives for the benefit of woodlot licensees.
-
At the local and regional levels, BC woodlot associations are engaged in a variety of cooperative initiatives with the Ministry of Forests and Range, in land use planning processes, and in information and educational programs for member woodlot operators, schools, and the general public.
